World Economic Forum Announces Postponement Until Summer of 2021
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Economic Forum (WEF) has announced on Wednesday that it will postpone its annual meeting until the summer of 2021.
“The decision was not taken easily, since the need for global leaders to come together to design a common recovery path and shape the ‘Great Reset' in the post-COVID-19 era is so urgent,” WEF said. “However, the advice from experts is that the Forum cannot do so safely in January.”
Fox Business reported that the world’s top business, political, and economic leaders gather every year in Davos, Switzerland. They do so “to discuss solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues.”
Clearly, one of the issues for 2020 is the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The dramatic spread of COVID-19 has disrupted lives, livelihoods, communities and businesses worldwide. All stakeholders, especially global business, must urgently come together to minimize its impact on public health and limit its potential for further disruption to lives and economies around the world,” said the WEF.
Almost 1,800 organizations have joined the COVID Action Platform of the World Economic Forum. This will focus on three priorities, as said on the WEF website:
- Galvanize the global business community for collective action
- Protect people’s livelihoods and facilitate business continuity
- Mobilize cooperation and business support for the COVID-19 response
Details of the rescheduled meeting will roll out to the public once WEF makes sure they have met all conditions that will “guarantee the health and safety of our participants and the hosting community.
