Over 1,000 Flights on Monday Gets Canceled Due to a Severe Winter Storm

Over 1,000 flights on Monday into or out of the U.S. have been canceled because of a severe winter storm. Around half of the said flights are from Southwest Airlines Co.

As of 6:00 p.m. ET, 1,019 flights had been canceled in total, according to flight tracking service FlightAware.

Due to poor weather and obsolete technology, low-cost carrier Southwest earlier this month came under fire from the US authorities for canceling 16,700 flights over the holidays.

Approximately 12% of the company's Monday schedule has been canceled, while American Airlines Group Inc has canceled 6% or 200.

The new cancellations come as the American aviation industry is recovering from a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-imposed national ground stop due to a computer problem.

Seven-hundred and ninety-seven flights into or out of the United States are currently slated to be canceled on Tuesday.

Winter weather exemptions have been provided by Southwest Carriers and other significant American airlines. If a customer stays in the same cabin as initially reserved, a waiver enables them to amend their travel plans without incurring additional costs.
