200 Veterans Died Waiting In The VA’s Secret Lines

In a new report that was released Tuesday by the Pheonix Veterans Affairs office's inspector general, the death of a veteran may be on their hands. Apparently, the Pheonix VA office is improperly cancelling veterans appointments, which is creating an overwhelming amount of backlog.
It has been two years since the discovery of “secret waiting lists” were found in Pheonix. The waiting lists left veterans struggling to get care. However, investigators have claimed that services have improved and cleared the clinic of the allegations that top officials were forcing employees to cancel appointments. Now, it doesn't seem like that's true.
Some veterans are still waiting over a half of a year to get treatment. Employees are still canceling appointments, for what seems to be questionable reasons.
They have now discovered that over 200 veterans died last year while waiting for appointments. They also believe that at least one could have been saved if his appointment was not canceled.
The inspector general said, “This patient never received an appointment for a cardiology exam that could have prompted further definitive testing and interventions that could have forestalled his death.”
Back in 2014, the top executives of the VA were found guilty of cooking their books and canceling appointments. They were even putting veterans on to “secret waiting lists” to make their backlogs seem less drastic.
The question is, are a few performance bonuses worth the lives of our countries veterans?
