5 Aides to Democrat Jeff Van Drew Resign as he Considers Switching to GOP
After Rep. Jeff Van Drew met with President Trump to discuss switching political parties, five of his aides have resigned. According to a letter they wrote to Van Drew's chief of staff, Allison Murphy, “Congressman Van Drew's decision to join the ranks of the Republican Party led by Donald Trump does not align with the values we brought to this job when we joined his office.”

Van Drew is only one of the two Democrats to vote against formalizing the impeachment inquiry against Trump and “has been an outspoken critic of the probe from the start.” Phil Murphy, New Jersey Gov. and Democrat, said the move was “cynical and desperate.”
A Fox News report stated the following: “A recent internal poll conducted for the Democrats found that 58 percent of primary voters in Van Drew's 2nd Congressional District wanted to nominate another candidate, while only 28 percent said he should be renominated.”
