Bald Eagle Shot Dead in Indiana; Conservation Officials Offer Reward for Information

A protected bald eagle in Indiana died after being shot. The shooting of the bald eagle was being investigated by Indiana Conservation Officer Ryan Jahn.

According to Indiana Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement, “the eagle was found alive south of the White River near Dixie Road, but later succumbed to the gunshot wound.”

Fox News explained that killing a bald eagle is a violation of the federal Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act wherein violators will face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $100,000. The law prohibits hunting, selling, and possessing bald eagles.

According to the agency, a reward was being offered for information on the incident that would lead to an arrest.

Indiana conservation officials are asking the public to help find the person who shot the bald eagle. CNN reported that those who wish to remain anonymous may do so with the agency’s Turn In a Poacher (TIP) line that “accepts tips about illegal fish and wildlife captures, violations, and killings.”
