Band-Aid Commits to Launching Bandages in Various Shades
Band-Aid promises that it will release a new line of bandages in a variety of colors.
“We stand in solidarity with our Black colleagues, collaborators and community in the fight against racism, violence and injustice. We are committed to taking actions to create tangible change for the Black community,” the company said in an Instagram post.
They are committed to “launching a range of bandages in light, medium and deep shades of Brown and Black skin tones that embrace the beauty of diverse skin,” the company also revealed. They also dedicate themselves “to inclusivity and providing the best healing solutions, better representing you.”
This move is among the many moves of businesses that align themselves with a racial justice movement. The death of George Floyd recharged this movement.
Band-Aid also said that they will be donating to Black Lives Matter. “We promise that this is just the first among many steps together in the fight against systemic racism,” the company said.
While some fans had positive reactions about Band-Aid’s move, others said the company acted too late.
“Did it just dawn upon you that black people exist?” said one commenter. “Took ya long enough,” said another.
A Previously Discontinued Line

However, the company actually released a variety of skin-toned bandages in 2005.
A Band-Aid representative revealed in an email to Insider why the company discontinued the line. The representative revealed that “lack of interest at the time” caused them to stop production.
“In 2005, we were proud to launch a line of bandages in the U.S. to blend with multiple skin tones called Band-Aid Brand Perfect Blend Adhesive Bandages,” the statement said. “We are excited to bring back a similar product with improved comfort and flexibility,” it then added.
