Biden Document Scandal: Admin Officials Blame National Archives for Mishandling of Records

Former and current Biden administration employees are blaming the National Archives for mishandling the president's sensitive records, which were stored in three different places.

A Friday CNN report cited “former and current administration officials and others familiar with the process,” saying that the National Archives refused to treat then-Vice President Biden’s records with the “same high regard” as it did former President Obama’s records.

“While the National Archives sends staff members to the White House to gather files and papers of the President, they do not treat all vice presidential papers with the same high regard, officials said,” the report added.

“Staff members from the vice president’s office are often left to sort through papers themselves, officials say, rather than specialists from the Archives,” the CNN report went on to say. “While classified documents hold the same level of secrecy for presidents, vice presidents and anyone with proper security clearance to handle them, officials say, it would be easier for papers outside the Oval Office to be mixed up or left behind.”

According to the article, the materials left behind by the National Archives were eventually deposited at the Penn Biden Center, where a wealth of sensitive information was discovered by Biden's attorneys in early November 2022.

The report did not specify how classified documents ended up in two additional unsecure places, including the president's family garage.

According to NBC News, the president's former executive assistant Kathy Chung, who was hired after Hunter's recommendation, was questioned by law enforcement about the sensitive materials stowed in three different places. According to Hunter's laptop emails, Chung's position as Joe Biden's secretary was in part owing to Hunter, who recommended his father hire her.

Hunter and Chung maintained regular communication during Joe Biden's stint as Vice President. Their contact includes organizing business meetings for the Biden family with former University of Pennsylvania President Amy Gutmann, who Joe Biden eventually appointed as US Ambassador to Germany.

In 2016, Joe Biden confirmed that Hunter had access to his father's garage. Hunter also owned his father's home in 2018, according to a document obtained by Miranda Devine of the New York Post on Thursday.
