Movie Theaters and Production May Soon Reopen in California

California can reopen its movie theaters this week if they receive approval from local officials. They must also limit attendance and impose other safeguards to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

California Department of Public Health guidelines say that movie theaters must “limit attendance to 25% of theater capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower.” They must also “implement a reservation system to limit the number of attendees entering the theater at a time whenever possible.”

As usual, moviegoers must stay six feet apart and wear masks when not eating or drinking.

Fox Business reported that Hollywood movie studios hope that enough theaters will be open to hold a late-summer blockbuster season.

California Governor Gavin Newsom has also released guidelines for restarting film and TV production.

“To reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission, productions, cast, crew and other industry workers should abide by safety protocols agreed by labor and management, which may be further enhanced by county public health officers. Back office staff and management should adhere to Office Workspace guidelines published by the California Department of Public Health and the California Department of Industrial Relations, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission,” said the California Department of Public Health.
