Colorado Republican Warns of Insurrection Over Dem Gun Bill

A GOP state legislator in Colorado gave a warning, saying that possible insurrections may occur if Democrats pass a modest gun control bill into law.

This week, as per a report by Colorado Politics, the state’s House of Representatives took up a proposal, requiring residents in the state to store their firearms safely. It says they should do so in their homes when the firearms are not being used. This is to make sure kids will not be able to access them.

Despite this proposal not being too restrictive on residents having the right to own and keep firearms, GOP state Rep. Richard Holtorf went on the House floor and gave his warning. He said that some of the residents may consider violence in response.

The U.S. “was founded on rebellion,” according to Holtorf when he spoke against the Colorado gun bill. He also added that if they continue imposing such restrictions, they may reach a “breaking point.”

However, the state’s House Speaker Alec Garnett rebuked Holtorf because of his warning. Garnett noted that tensions are still high and that Holtorf “can’t be inciting violence.”

Earlier this year, Holtoft was in hot water as many were outraged by his remark towards a Democratic colleague. He said that his colleague should move on from losing his son during a mass shooting at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado back in 2012.
