Constitutional Carry Bill Clears Florida House, Heads to Senate

By a vote of 76 to 32, constitutional carry legislation cleared the Florida House on Friday afternoon. It now goes to the Senate.

When HB 543 hits his desk, the governor, Ron DeSantis (R), has stated that he will sign it, according to Click Orlando.

State Rep. Chuck Brannan (R), the sponsor of HB 543, said, “This bill is a big step, a big step to help the average law-abiding citizen, to keep them from having to go through the hoops of getting a permit from the government to carry their weapon.”

He also said, “It is also not going to change who can and who cannot carry a gun. People that are prohibited now are still going to be prohibited.”

In 25 of the Union's states, constitutional carry is the norm. Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming are among the 25 states that make up the group.

Bill 543 in Florida only applies to concealed carry, unlike the constitutional carry laws in the other 25 states. the 25 states listed above that permit constitutional carry as the rule of the land.
