Del Rio Sector Records 11K Migrant Border Apprehensions Last Week
Border Patrol agents stationed at the Del Rio Sector apprehended around 11,000 migrants in the past week. Another 3,200 managed to flee without being arrested.
Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Jason D. Owens revealed that his agents apprehended 10,789 migrants in the previous week. There are 21 large migrant groups that require additional resources for transit and processing.
According to Owens, the largest single group consisted of 704 migrants. Randy Clark of Breitbart Texas reported that the group entered the Eagle Pass, Texas, area of operations on Thursday morning
Chief Owens further stated that an additional 3,208 migrants are considered runaways.
The Del Rio Sector agents accomplished 17 migrant rescues. Unfortunately, as per Owens, one of the migrants passed away from drowning while going across the Rio Grande from Mexico into Texas.
These figures represent a significant increase from last week's Del Rio Sector report, which recorded 9,932 apprehensions. During that same week, an additional 4,232 people were classified as “got-aways.”
Even with high apprehension rates, the Del Rio Sector remains the second busiest in the country, trailing only the El Paso Sector.
Border Patrol agents apprehended nearly 7,400 migrants in El Paso over the weekend, according to Breitbart Texas. This includes a single large group of over 1,000 migrants, which set a new record.
The sudden influx of migrants into El Paso caused homeless and migrant shelters to be overcrowded. Despite the impending freezing weather, at least five homeless shelters have stated that they will be unable to accept additional people.
