States where residents opted to vote for President Joe Biden in the 2020 election, saw more jobs lost during the coronavirus pandemic compared to those where residents opted to vote for former President Donald Trump, as per a new report.

According to an analysis by Daily Mail, between February and December 2020, states in the country that decided to side with Biden had a 6.2% drop in the number of people employed. Meanwhiles, those who sided with Trump only saw a 2.5% decline. The UK paper’s report also said that 13 states that experienced the lowest decline lean mostly Republican. These are lead by the states of Alaska and Utah, both of which enjoyed an increase in the employment rate. Alaska increased by 0.7% and Utah by 0.3% respectively.

Also, the way US states reacted to the pandemic varied. Democratic states have decided to put more restrictive rules in place compared to Republican ones. However, analysis has found that there’s only a small difference in the outcome with regards to containing the spread of COVID-19.

The Daily Mail analyzed the US Bureau of Labor Statistics data to study the change in each state’s civilian labor force. They studied the data between February and December 2020.
