House Dems Trying to Dodge Republican Leadership for Gun Control Vote

Democrats in the House are attempting to use a discharge petition to get around Republican leadership and put a vote on gun control on the agenda.

According to NY1, Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) has introduced a bill that would increase the existing immediate background check to a 10-day check as part of the Democrats' campaign for gun regulation.

Rep. Lucy McBath's “assault weapons” ban is one of the gun control measures (D-GA). The measure also addresses magazine capacity, making it unlawful to produce or own magazines that enable firearms to fire more than 15 rounds before needing to reload.

Rep. Mike Thompson's (D-CA) proposal for a universal background check is the third and final component of the Democratic campaign for gun regulation.

By making it unlawful to sell a pistol to a longtime neighbor or coworker without first contacting a government official to request an FBI background check on the potential purchaser, Thompson's measure would outlaw private gun sales.

The Democrats are attempting to time their vote on gun regulation to fall on June 17, 2015, the anniversary of the killing at the Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina.
