Dunkin Donuts has announced its permanent closing of 450 stores by the end of the year.

Reports say that the closing locations are all inside Speedway gas stations and not free-standing cafes. Also, Today Food reported that the announcement comes as part of the termination of the coffee shop’s partnership with Hess. The Hess Corporation is the owner of Speedway gas stations.

“By exiting these sites, we are confident we will be better positioned to serve these trade areas with Dunkin's newest Next Generation restaurant design that offers a broader menu and modern experience,” said Kate Jaspon, Dunkin Donuts' chief financial officer.

“We also remain committed to growing our presence in gas and convenience locations, as well as other non-traditional locations, including airports, universities, travel plazas and military installations,” Jaspon mentioned.

The company’s statement also says that the move will help support its efforts to focus on its larger standalone cafes.

“These points of distribution are lower volume units, in total representing less than 0.5% of Dunkin’ U.S. annual systemwide sales in 2019,” said Jaspon.
