An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck off Jamaica on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said, while a tsunami warning was issued for Jamaica, Cuba and other nearby areas.

The focus of the quake, which shook the region at around 2:10 p.m. local time, was 125 kilometers away from Lucea, Jamaica, in the Caribbean Sea at a depth of 10 kilometers, the USGS said.

According to Reuters, the International Tsunami Information Center issued a warning of a tsunami up to 1 meter for a wide area of Central America, including the coasts of Mexico, Belize, Cuba, Honduras, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands after the quake.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said the temblor will not have any impact on the Japanese archipelago.
