FAUCI Act Aims to Ban US Funding of Gain of Function Research
Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) filed the FAUCI Act last week. The bill aims to implement greater accountability for government medical agencies. This includes those that funded gain-of-function research in Chinese labs.
The bill will also require transparency and honesty in agency workers. It covers grants issued by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). It also holds the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) liable.

FAUCI Act Bans US Funding For Gain-of-Function Research
The act stands for Fairness and Accountability in Underwriting Chinese Institutions (FAUCI) Act. Once approved, it will completely ban all US funding for gain-of-function research.
It will also backtrack previous programs funded by the NIH and NIAID. The act will demand a full accounting of US involvement in ‘gain-of-function' research. In particular, partnerships with China and Chinese research labs will face scrutiny.
The FAUCI Act will also impose penalties for erring NIH and NIAID employees. It will disqualify any misrepresenting NIH grant recipient from present and future funding. Government agency workers from NIH and NIAID can also lose their jobs if they don't tell the truth.
A Reference To The Real Fauci
The act is a direct reference to NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci. It also calls out outgoing NIH Director Francis Collins, who is retiring later this year.
Both Fauci and Collins recently came under fire for gain-of-function research funding. An investigation focused on US nonprofit EcoHealth Alliance. This organization conducts research on infectious diseases.
However, EcoHealth may have violated the terms of its grant. Specifically, it ignored the terms prohibiting gain-of-function research. Also, it worked with China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology on risky virus experiments.
Both Fauci and Collins have repeatedly denied the claims. They said that the NIH never funded gain-of-function research experiments.
They also denied authorizing research that created deadly pathogens more transmissible among humans. Fauci remained defiant even after facing Senator Rand Paul (R-KY).
WCW Praises FAUCI Act
Meanwhile, watchdog organization White Coat Waste Project hailed the FAUCI Act. Vice President Justin Goodman commended Senator Ernst for introducing the bill.
It protects taxpayers and the public from wasteful and dangerous spending in China. They also hailed efforts to hold NIH employees and grant holders accountable.
“Shipping U.S. tax dollars to a notorious Chinese Communist Party-run bioagent lab in Wuhan for treacherous gain-of-function animal experiments was a recipe for disaster.
We applaud Senator Ernst for introducing the FAUCI Act to protect taxpayers and public health from dangerous and wasteful spending in China and to hold NIH officials and grantees accountable for not being forthright with Congress,” Goodman said.
FAUCI Act is for Transparency and Accountability
Ernst wanted the coverups ended. For years, tax dollars found their way to “Communist China” for dangerous experiments.
This included gain-of-function research on the coronavirus. “We need a full accounting of how and where our tax dollars are being spent—enough is enough.
The FAUCI Act will put an end to U.S. funding of gain-of-function research in Communist China, go after government officials who intentionally mislead Congress, and bring about badly needed transparency and accountability.”
