Many Americans Experiencing Problems Ordering Free COVID Test Kits From Website
Many Americans who want to avail of the free COVID test kits offered by the government are running into problems ordering them. Hopefully, the government can fix this problem as soon as possible.

Americans Running Into Problems Ordering Free COVID Test Kits
On Tuesday, many Americans began placing orders for the free COVID test kits offered by the Biden administration.
The White House activated the official website a day earlier than planned so that citizens can start placing orders. However, many households who tried to avail found themselves blocked from doing so.
The government is providing each American household with four COVID test kits for free. The White House said that it limited each household to four free kits in order to ensure broad access for every American.
Households Can Order Free COVID Tests Online
To avail of the program, a household member must visit the official government website to order the free COVID test kits. There, they can click on the “order free at-home test” button.
Doing so redirects the user to a United States Postal Service order form. Applicants will now need to submit a name and a valid shipping address.
Delivery for the COVID test kits is free and will take between seven to 12 days. Deliveries will start at the end of the month.
While some users reported a hassle-free process of ordering the free COVID test kits, many people found it difficult to do so. In particular, many inhabitants of multiple unit buildings such as apartments and condominiums reported problems.
Problems In Specifying Delivery Address
Users who live in mixed-use buildings reported that the website returns an error message when they input their address.
The error said that the address entered is a known commercial establishment. The USPS will only deliver the free COVID test kits to purely residential addresses.
Meanwhile, users who live in apartments and condominiums also reported a similar problem. Once a neighbor from the same residence successfully ordered the free kits, the website won’t accept orders from the same address, even if the unit is different.
This prevented many Americans from availing the free COVID test kits for their households.
Postal Service Offers Alternate Way To Order Free COVID Test Kits
Meanwhile, the Postal Service acknowledged that addresses not registered as multi-unit buildings can pose problems when ordering.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki also offered an excuse. “Every website launch, in our view, comes with risk. We can’t guarantee there won’t be a bug or two.
But the best tech teams across the administration and the Postal Service are working hard to make this a success,” she said.
To work around the problem of getting blocked when using the website to order, the USPS gave two alternatives.
Americans can file a service request for the free test kits at emailus.usps.com/s/the-postal-store-inquiry. Or, they call for assistance using the toll-free number 1-800-ASK-USPS.
