Gas Explosion in Baltimore Kills At Least 1 Woman; Injures at Least 4 Others

A gas explosion ripped through three homes in the Reisterstown Station neighborhood in Northwest Baltimore, as reported by The Baltimore Sun. The explosion killed one woman and seriously injured at least four others.

The explosion happened before 10 a.m. at Reisterstown and Labyrinth roads. As per Fox News, the union representing the city’s firefighters kept contact “with one person trapped in the wreckage.”

“Update: 6 people involved in W. Baltimore gas explosion includes 4 people transported in serious condition, 1 adult woman deceased, & FFs continue to rescue additional occupant. The cause is under investigation as we continue to search for any possible additional occupants,” tweeted The Baltimore City Fire Department.

A reporter for The Baltimore Sun, Colin Campbell, also tweeted that “the explosion destroyed the home of Major Watkins Jr., 88, and Caroline Youngblood, 90.”

“Watkins, a U.S. Army artillery veteran, said the blast ‘sounded like Korea,’” the tweet then added.

“Several houses exploded. At least 5 people trapped, some children. A Collapse Respose and Second Alarm has been called,” Baltimore Firefighters IAFF Local 734 also wrote.

The person who was killed was reportedly pronounced dead on the scene.

“2 occupants transported in serious condition, 1 adult woman deceased as BCFD continue to search for more,” the Baltimore Fire Department also said.

According to Fox News, a spokesperson for Baltimore Gas and Electric said workers responded after the explosion.

“Crews are working to turn off gas to the buildings in the immediate area,” the spokesperson said. “Once the gas is off we can begin to safely assess the situation including inspections of BGE equipment.”
