GoFundMe Page For Waukesha Parade Suspect Removed

An unidentified person started a GoFundMe page for the man suspected of driving an SUV through a holiday parade in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Upon realizing the existence of the fundraiser, GoFundMe administrators immediately took down the page.

Earlier during the weekend, Darrell Brooks was taken into custody by Wisconsin police after the tragic Waukesha Christmas Parade.

The suspect reportedly ignored roadblocks and drove his SUV straight into the parade, killing six people and injuring more than 40.  Arrested at the site, Brooks received five counts of first-degree intentional homicide.  

Last Tuesday, Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson said that they already filed charges against Brooks. Multiple witnesses and videos clearly identified him as the driver of the SUV that barreled its way towards the parade crowd.

Thompson said that they received information that the suspect came from a domestic disturbance incident minutes before the crashing into the parade. Police were on the way to attend to the domestic disturbance when Brooks drove his SUV into the crowd.

Meanwhile, a person started a GoFundMe page for Brooks, ostensibly for his bail. The GoFundMe page aimed to raise $5 million to pay for his bail.

However, GoFundMe immediately brought the page down. The firm said that they banned the person who started the GoFundMe page from the platform.

Per rules governing the use of the site, GoFundMe said it does not allow fundraisers for suspects charged with a violent crime.

According to a company spokesperson, that page violated the site’s terms of service. “Fundraisers with misuse are very rare, and we take all complaints very seriously.

Our team works with law enforcement to report issues and assists them in any investigations they deem necessary,” the spokesperson said.

Another Waukesha Victim Died From Injuries

Meanwhile, another victim from the Waukesha crash succumbed to injuries and died. This brings the death toll to six. The new fatality is among the 16 children brought to the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

“With deepest sympathy and sorrow, Children's Wisconsin shares that earlier Tuesday, a child being cared for at Children's Wisconsin passed away from injuries sustained at the Waukesha parade.

As family and friends learn of this loss and the name of the child is likely to become public, the child's parents have asked that their privacy be respected.

They do not wish to be contacted by media at this time,” the release said. For the remaining 15 victims, doctors allowed two children to go home now. 13 children till remain in hospital, including six in critical condition.
