Governor DeSantis Takes Charge and Suspends Local Emergency COVID-19 Orders
On Monday, Florida’s Republican Governor, Ron DeSantis, signed a bill into law, banning COVID-19 passports in the state. DeSantis also revealed a new executive order that would suspend all pandemic-related emergency orders in the state.
Businesses, schools, and government offices in Florida are now banned by law from making people show documentation that proves they’ve been vaccinated for COVID-19 or they’ve recovered from the virus prior to entry.
The new law also provides DeSantis the authority that can override local health orders during a health emergency. He also now has the authority to direct government agencies in the state to create plans for future pandemics.
DeSantis to Suspend COVID-19 Orders
DeSantis made a few remarks prior to signing the bill, including the announcement of a new executive order. The new executive action entails that all local COVID-19 emergency orders will become non-effective in Flora starting July 1. In the meantime, the governor plans to use his authority in suspending local restrictions until this executive order takes effect.
The governor also said that what he did was based on evidence. He said he believes if people think they still need policing, it means they don’t believe the vaccine and science. He noted that they “embraced the vaccines” and “embraced the science on it.”
DeSantis’ order will take effect on state and local governments. Private businesses in Florida will have the freedom to enact their own health and safety rules as they see fit.
The Florida governor also slammed local and state governments in other areas of the country since they continue to enact new pandemic-related restrictions even though vaccine distribution steadily continues. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention itself issued guidelines that mention fully vaccinated Americans don’t have to wear masks outdoors. They should only wear masks while they’re with a large crowd.
“It's insane,” DeSantis said.
