Two-thirds of California citizens, according to a survey issued on Wednesday by the Public Policy Institute of California, think that gun control is more important than gun rights.

1,539 California individuals participated in the poll, which was conducted between January 13–20, 2023.

One question asked, “What do you think is more important—[rotate] (1) to protect the right of Americans to own guns, [or] (2) to control gun ownership?”

According to 65% of those polled, it is more important to “control gun ownership.” Meanwhile, 34% believe it is more crucial to “protect the right of Americans to own guns.”

1% of respondents were unsure about their thoughts in regard to the question.

The overwhelming support for gun control among Californians, according to the PPIC survey, “partially explains why gun control bills are proliferating in the new Legislature – some of them good, some goofy,” the Los Angeles Times said following the survey's release.

The primary focus of the state's efforts to reduce gun violence is on people who have concealed carry permits, as well as on restricting where and at what age people can carry concealed weapons for self-defense.

Per Breitbart News, on February 2, 2023, Gov. Gavin Newsom's (D) reaction to recent mass shootings in California was to support Senate Bill 2, which prohibits concealed carry.
