McConnell: White House Blames Putin For High Gas Prices

Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell finds the White House’s reason for high gas prices absurdly funny. He said that blaming Russian President Vladimir Putin for high gas prices for the last 14 months is “laugh-out-loud revisionist history.”

McConnells Calls Out White House’s ‘Revisionist HIstory’ On High Gas Prices

The Republican senator bristled at attempts by Democrats to scapegoat Russia for the insane cost of fuel nowadays.

Instead of looking at Eastern Europe, McConnell suggests that the White House look at themselves. “Democrats' reckless spending that's fueled across-the-board inflation have made Americans’ pain at the pump even worse.

But in the last few days, the Biden administration has tried to invent some laugh-out-loud – laugh-out-loud revisionist history,” he thundered. 

McConnell pointed out that the Biden administration’s energy policies contributed more to high gas prices than the three-week-old war in Ukraine. 

He said that Democrats are “trying to rebrand the entire increase in gas prices on their watch’. The White House wants “to blame 14 months of gas price increases on the last two weeks of turmoil. Washington Democrats' war on domestic energy long predates Putin’s war on Ukraine.” 

US Inflation Now At 7.9%

Meanwhile, the US Labor Department reported Thursday that the consumer price index surged by 7.9% in February. This means that prices of goods and services increased by that factor in a 12-month period. This rate is the highest monthly gain in the past forty years. 

“Today’s inflation report is a reminder that Americans’ budgets are being stretched by price increases,” Biden said last Thursday. “Families are starting to feel the impacts of Putin’s price hike.

The President pointed to the war as a big factor in inflation this March. “A large contributor to inflation…was an increase in gas and energy prices as markets reacted to Putin’s aggressive actions.”

Stop The ‘Purchase of Putin’s War’

McConnell also highlighted the inflation rate to bring home his point. Inflation, and the resulting high gas prices, have long existed before Putin started his war.

And now, the Biden administration wants to pin the blame on the latter.  In fact, the White House began using the phrase “Putin’s price hike” when referring to high gas prices.

Also, Biden told a reporter last week that he finds Putin responsible for high gas prices which “he can’t do much” about.

Earlier this week, a reporter asked President Biden what he was going to do about soaring gas prices. Biden responded that he “can’t do much,” adding “Russia’s responsible.” 

McConnell slammed the mention of “Putin’s price hike”. “I strongly support America stopping our purchase of Putin’s war, ” McConnell said. 

However, the Democrat’s war on American energy production makes it even harder. The federal government didn’t address inflation in the last 14 months. This made it more painful to push back on Putin. American households will now bear the cost of even higher prices.

Americans To Bear The Brunt of Ukraine War

However, Biden continues to insist that Americans will bear the brunt of Putin’s war with Ukraine. “There will be costs at home as we impose crippling sanctions in response to Putin’s unprovoked war,” he said.

As if to add insult to injury, the President said that the Russians will suffer more. Whatever price Americans are paying now, “the costs we are imposing on Putin and his cronies are far more devastating.”
