Illegal Aliens Qualify For Oakland Payout Program While Whites Are Excluded

Mayor Libby Schaaf (D) of Oakland, California has announced a payout program that would provide minority families in poverty $500 per month. Poor white families are not included in the program, but illegal immigrants are.

To qualify for the program, there are a number of requirements that residents need to meet. These include having at least one child and having an income that is at or under 50% of the city’s median income. Only minority groups, including undocumented and homeless individuals, qualify for the program.

Poor White People Excluded in Oakland Payout Program

White people are ineligible for the said program.

According to the Daily Mail, 10,000 people in Oakland are white people who live in poverty. That’s around 8% of the city’s population. However, these people will not be a part of this program just because they are white.

As per the Associated Press, Oakland excluded white residents since their households in Oakland “make about three times as much” yearly compared to African-American households. However, what the local government overlooked was that 10,000 people living in poverty do not.

Rightfully so, many found this racist and unfair. Many took to the internet to point this fact out, calling it unconstitutional. This included Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR), who tweeted in disbelief that a city in America is excluding people from getting benefits because of skin color.

The program entails a $500 per month payout for qualified families as guaranteed income. In this program, the payments will last up to 18 months. Additionally, there are no rules on how to spend it. According to the local government of Oakland, the money used for the payouts comes from a private fund.
