Biden Silent As Israeli-Palestinian Conflict Rages

President Joe Biden remains eerily silent as the Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated in the last few days. Yesterday, Hamas fired a barrage of rockets at the towns of Tel Aviv and Beersheba. This is an apparent retaliation to Israeli airstrikes made earlier at Gaza.

As a result, lawmakers from both aisles of the US Congress are calling out Biden for his silence. They want to know why America is apparently reluctant to issue any statements.

However, Republicans and Democrats are calling out Biden for different reasons. Consequently, this puts the president right in the middle of the latest Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This can mean that condemning one side implies support for the other.

Republicans Want Biden To Condemn Hamas

Meanwhile, Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) demanded that the Biden administration “strongly condemn” Hamas. The rocket attacks launched by the group occurred during Jerusalem day last Monday.

Haggerty tweeted that the Biden administration should strongly condemn Hamas. In particular, he said that the group “and other terrorists” are “exploiting tensions in Jerusalem” to carry out rocket attacks. The US should support “Israel’s right to defend its citizens,” he added.

‘Incredibly Unhelpful'

In addition, House Armed Services Committee member Representative Michael Waltz (RFL) criticized Biden as well. He told Fox News that the administration's actions are “incredibly unhelpful” right now.

“They’ve given away all leverage right up front, and we’re seeing this is a theme with the Biden administration in terms of handing out cash hoping it fixes the situation. So they’ve already agreed to give hundreds of millions of dollars without any conditions,” Waltz said.

Additionally, Waltz referred to the recent move by Biden to restore US aid to Palestinians. He said Biden should have asked the Palestinian Authority to denounce Hamas.

“And, importantly, without changing the governing situation on the ground. There’s just endemic corruption within the Palestinian government that is a real disservice to its people. Yet, American taxpayer dollars are going to flow back into that situation,” he added.

Democrats Want Biden to Sanction Israel

Then, there is Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib (MI). Tlaib is a supporter of the movement to boycott, divest and sanction (BDS) Israel. She accused Biden White of “enabling” the violence in the region by giving Israel foreign aid.

Also, she said that the US should admit that Israel uses aid to commit human rights violations. “US taxpayer dollars should not be used to commit human rights violations. That needs to be said,” Tlaib said on MSNBC. “I have yet to hear anybody from the Biden administration declare that,” she added.

Biden Has Serious Concerns Regarding Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Meanwhile, White House press secretary Jen Psaki went to update the media Monday. She said that the Biden administration holds some “serious concerns” about the situation.

In particular, Psaki referred to a call report from national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Recently, Sullivan held a conference call with Israeli national security adviser Meir Ben-Shabbat.

“Mr. Sullivan highlighted recent engagements by senior US officials with senior Israeli and Palestinian officials and key regional stakeholders to press for steps to ensure calm, deescalate tensions, and denounce violence,” it read.

“Mr. Sullivan also reiterated the United States’ serious concerns about the potential evictions of Palestinian families from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.

They agreed that the launching of rocket attacks and incendiary balloons from Gaza towards Israel is unacceptable and must be condemned.”
