John Kerry Removed His Mask During A Commercial Flight

While aboard a commercial flight, climate Czar John Kerry removed his mask in full view of fellow passengers. This is in direct violation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) mandate that individuals must wear masks while traveling onboard public transport. Passengers “must wear masks that cover both the mouth and nose” while traveling on public transportation and while at a “transportation hub,” according to the CDC guidelines.

Fellow Passenger Took the Photo

A photo surfaced of a maskless Kerry reading a book during an American Airlines flight. The photo, which first appeared on the Tennessee Star, shows the former secretary of state wearing his mask hanging off one ear while reading a book in first class.

Fox News confirmed the photo's authenticity with the passenger, who insisted on remaining anonymous. Also, the unnamed passenger shared a photo of his boarding pass with Fox News to confirm his inclusion in Kerry’s flight. He said that the presidential climate envoy wore a mask while at the boarding gate. However, he took it off shortly after boarding ahead of other passengers.

At Least John Kerry is Flying Commercial Again

“I salute our Very Special Presidential Envoy for Climate for not flying private but instead flying the first-class commercial with the rest of us common folk. And while he can’t bring himself to follow his own party’s mask restrictions, we should cut him some slack,” commented the fellow passenger.

“Being an elite hypocrite is hard work!” the passenger added. He also observed that the plane was mostly full during their flight. Notably, though, he did not see any of the flight attendants onboard instructing Kerry to put his mask back on. He did see Kerry with the mask back on for most of the flight.

‘Masks Are Required On Board’

On Twitter, American Airlines said that they will look into the incident. They reiterated that “masks are required” on their planes for everyone. A spokesperson for American Airlines later clarified what happened. “Masks are required onboard our aircraft. Our team works diligently to make sure customers are wearing masks properly as they travel with us, and flight attendants pass through the cabin several times during the flight to ensure compliance. The crew did not observe Secretary Kerry without a mask, and they were not alerted by other customers to a non-compliance issue. We continue to review the matter and we are reaching out to Secretary Kerry to underscore that all customers are expected to wear masks for the duration of their trip,” the spokesman said.

‘Mask Slip Was Momentary’

John Kerry replied on Twitter to defend his masklessness. He said that the mask slip happened but only for a short while. “Feels like there’s some St. Patrick’s day ‘malarkey' afoot on Twitter. Let's be clear: If I dropped my mask to one ear on a flight, it was momentary. I wear my mask because it saves lives and stops the spread. It's what the science tells us to do,” he tweeted.

The passenger disagreed and insisted it was more than momentary. “His mask was off for five minutes. If five minutes is ‘momentarily,' he's correct. Not sure being in a plane without a mask for five minutes is excusable,” the passenger exclaimed.
