Should Host Joy Behar Be Removed From ‘The View’ for Blackface Costume?

An old photo of “The View” co-host Joy Behar resurfaced. In the photo, it is seen that she is using makeup to darken her skin for a Halloween costume, explained by Associated Press as “the latest flashpoint in a series of blackface scandals making national headlines.”

An editor for The Wrap tweeted a 2016 segment of Behar discussing the rebirth of curly hair, but Behar did not mention the clip on the show the day after it was tweeted. The segment shows Behar showing a 1970s-era photo of herself when she was 29, saying she was dressed as a “beautiful African woman.” Co-host Raven Symone asked if she was wearing tanning lotion, in which Behar responded that she was wearing makeup “that was a little bit darker than my skin.”

Critics pointed out that NBS cut ties with Megyn Kelly when she created an uproar “by suggesting that it was OK for white people to wear blackface on Halloween.” Moreover, Virginia’s governor and attorney general are being criticized for their use of blackface, and Florida Secretary of State Michael Ertel resigned after a photo of him wearing blackface and dressing as a “Hurricane Katrina victim” resurfaced.

In a recent report, Donald Trump Jr. attacked Behar by saying “We have all done things that we regret. If we're talking about bringing the discourse down, Joy. You have worn blackface” during his appearance on the ABC morning show.

Behar addressed her controversial makeup choices. “I did not go in blackface,” Behar said. Whoopi Goldberg backed her up and said “No, she was not in blackface. Listen, being black, I recognize blackface, this I can say.”

But the question remains, should Behar be removed from her position on the show? Tell us in the comment section below.
