Trump has yet to formally announce his intent to run again for President of the United States. He spoke to a large crowd at the State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

During his 90-minute speech, he took shots at the administration of Democratic President Joe Biden. He said that Biden and his proposal for trillions of dollars in spending is currently stalled in Congress. In addition, he accused the Democrats of leading the United States into the “brink of ruin.”

Trump also remarked on his performance in Iowa, where he won the elections 53% versus 45%.

”As disastrous as the Biden administration has been, no one can blame the great state of Iowa, because boy we did really — we did really good here. Iowa, what a place,” he said.

With the help of the Hawkeye State, “we’re going to take America back. We must send the radical left a message they will never forget,” he added. During the speech, Trump also unveiled a possible new campaign slogan for 2024. Trump will “Make America Great Again – Again.”

Trump More Popular in Iowa After Leaving Office

According to the Des Moines Register’s latest poll, Trump is now more popular in Iowa after stepping down. Pollster J. Ann Selzer said that Trump remains very popular with Republicans.

He also gained support from independent voters. “From March it was 45/53 — so a majority of independents saying they had an unfavorable opinion of former President Trump. In this poll, it was 48/49. So he's evened out the edge that was there as a problem with independent voters in Iowa.” Seltzer reported.

As a result, the former president credited the numbers in his email to supporters. In addition, his political action committee went on a hiring spree for Iowa-based advisers.

However, the recent actions still do not confirm whether Trump will run again for President. His constant presence in the media and in campaign rallies do tend to take the spotlight away from other Republicans who want to run for President.

Trump’s ‘Make America Great Again’ Froze the Field For Other Republican Candidates

Kedron Bardwell, a political science professor at Simpson College, says Trump mostly froze the field for Republicans. “It doesn't mean they're not testing the waters.

But I don't think people want to go through the amount of work it would take to build the infrastructure and get, you know, the donations lined up, ready to go, if they know that in a few months, he's just going to drop his hat in the ring anyway,” he explained.

Despite the many accusations against Trump, the former President continues to stand tall among Republicans among voters. Even accusations of spreading misinformation doesn’t seem to deter Trump’s popularity.

Bardwell said that “You can't put the genie back in the bottle, in terms of once this accusation is unleashed. And once it's believed by a large percentage of the Republican base, there's kind of no going back at that point.

Mainly because kind of the psychological dynamics of misinformation are such that at that point, people will just find and then rationalize the position that they already have.”

Case in point: despite the many controversies embroiling Trump, Iowa Republicans for reelection next year insist on appearing with him at rallies.

Both Senator Chuck Grassley (IA)  and state Governor Kim Reynolds joined Trump at the Saturday night rally and spoke ahead of him. Like most GOP voters, they believed Trump when he said he wanted to Make America Great Again – again.
