Federal health officials warn people to avoid certain foods due to issues like E. coli and lack of inspection. These foods include romaine lettuce, raw pork products, chicken fried rice, Cheese Nips, cottage cheese, and blackberries.

Romaine lettuce from Salinas, California should be avoided, as said by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Forty people in 16 states got sick from an E.coli outbreak. Consumers must not purchase this type of lettuce harvested in the town about 60 miles south of San Jose.

More than half a million pounds of pork products were recalled in Illinois due to lack of inspection. The recall was prompted when federal officials received an anonymous tip that the company was producing products without inspection.

172,692 pounds of chicken fried rice products are also being recalled in Mississippi as they may contain plastic pieces. Produced from July 9 to July 11, 2019, these products were shipped to retail locations in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, and Texas.

Mondelēz Global LLC has issued the voluntary recall for certain boxes of Cheese Nips due to contamination with small plastic pieces. It was reported that these plastic pieces “came from a dough scraper that was incorporated into the production process.”

Cottage cheese is also being recalled after a customer found a piece of red plastic in a container. Kraft Heinz has reported that “there have been six consumer complaints of contamination, but no reports of injury or illness related to the issue.”

Blackberries have also caused certain health issues in Indiana, Nebraska, and Wisconsin. An outbreak of hepatitis A has been linked to this fruit, and federal health officials are also investigating “after people who fell ill reported consuming fresh blackberries from the chain based in Illinois.”
