Man Dies After Attempting to Break into an ATM Using Explosives

Philadelphia police said a 24-year-old man died after using explosives to try to break into an ATM or Automated Teller Machine.

“There, investigators were looking over the automated teller machine with a smashed screen, a mangled keyboard, dangling components but a seemingly intact safe at the bottom,” FOX 29 said in a report. Investigators also found live explosives at the scene.

The man was rushed from the sidewalk outside Sidekicks Sports Bar on North 2nd Street to Temple University Hospital. He was later pronounced dead.

This happened after a third night of protests in the city. These protests have been “heavily targeted by looters taking advantage of civil unrest,” reported Philly Voice.

The authorities have not released the identity of the man. He reportedly suffered trauma to his upper body.

According to a report by Fox News, there were reports of similar explosions in other parts of the city. These are “events that the city’s police commissioner reportedly labeled as ‘organized’ and ‘coordinated.’”

One video shows a group of men rushing over following a small explosion. It shows a crowd gathering at the scene and then later taking off.

Protests started in Philadelphia and many other cities following the tragic death of George Floyd who died in police custody. Former officer Derek Chauvin now faces charges of murder and manslaughter.
