Kevin McCarthy, Others Slam Maxine Waters For Riot Remarks

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), lawmakers from both sides, and the media are railing against Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA). He demanded that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) take action against irresponsible comments made by Waters over the weekend. If Pelosi won’t, McCarthy threatened he would do it himself.

Rep. Maxine Waters’ Comments

Waters attended a Brooklyn Center, Minnesota protest last Saturday. The venue is where local police shot and killed 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop incident last April 11.

In addition, activists are on edge as they await the results of the trial of Derek Chauvin. Chauvin is the police officer involved in the death of George Floyd, who dies while under police custody in view of the public. Consequently, Floyd’s death led to protests under the Black Lives Matter movement. 

Waters told the crowd to stand by for the trial’s verdict. “We’re looking for a guilty verdict. We’re looking for a guilty verdict.

And we’re looking to see if all of this [inaudible] that took place and has been taking place after they saw what happened to George Floyd. If nothing does happen, then we know, that we’ve got to not only stay in the street, but we’ve got to fight for justice, but I am very hopeful and I hope that we’re going to get a verdict that will say guilty, guilty, guilty. And if we don’t, we cannot go away,” she told the crowd.

When asked about what should they do if Chauvin receives a “not guilty” verdict, Waters told the crowd to remain on the streets. “We’ve got to get more active,” she said. In addition, Waters told the crowd “to get more confrontational. [We’ve] got to make sure that they know we mean business.”

McCarthy Says Waters Is Inciting Violence

McCarthy demanded on Sunday that Pelosi address comments made by Waters over the weekend. “Maxine Waters is inciting violence in Minneapolis, just as she has incited it in the past. If Speaker Pelosi doesn’t act against this dangerous rhetoric, I will bring action this week,” the lawmaker said in a statement. 

In addition, other politicians and some media members also condemned Water’s statement. The New York Post Editorial Board called out the California representative.

They said Waters was “trying to create a Civil War” and urged that Pelosi “should strip her of her committee assignments and move for a vote to remove Waters from office.”

Others Join The Call-In Slamming Maxine Waters

Other notable officials and political commentators from both sides of the aisle also gave their opinion on what Waters said. Texas Republican Senator Ted Cruz remarked that “Democrats actively encouraging riots & violence. They want to tear us apart.” 

Podcast host Matt Walsh said Waters might be trying to influence the trial. “Maxine Waters is trying to intimidate a jury to influence the outcome of a murder trial.

Every elected Republican in the country should be calling for her immediate arrest and removal from congress,” he insisted.

Another podcast host, Steven Crowder, said that if Twitter and Facebook banned former president Donald Trump’s accounts for inciting violence, then Waters should be federally charged and impeached. Also, fellow host Gerry Callahan agrees, noting that Trump got banned for less.  

Meanwhile, Democrat Bryan Dean Wright, a former CIA officer, opined that Waters is a threat to the Republic, while attorney and columnist Kurt Schlichter said Water’s actions are a form of insurrection.

Taylor-Greene Joins The Fray

Meanwhile, Georgia Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R) announced Sunday that she will introduce a resolution to expel Democratic Representative Maxine Waters. In her statement, Green said that she will introduce a resolution “to expel Rep. Maxine Waters from Congress for her continual incitement of violence.”

Greene, herself a target of expulsion from some Democratic members of Congress, had her committee positions stripped after previously endorsing violence against Democratic politicians. She also espoused QAnon conspiracy theories and other dogma.
