More Governors Issue Severe Coronavirus Restrictions as Cases Continue to Increase
With cases continuing to increase ahead of Thanksgiving, more governors across the U.S. are issuing severe coronavirus restrictions.
The new restrictions come after various states over the weekend issued some of the harshest measures yet during the pandemic
Oregan, for example, banned indoor gatherings of more than six people from more than two households. Michigan has limited gatherings to just two households.
Fox News reported that Kentucky, Minnesota, and Kansas joined those states on Wednesday as they “issued new restrictions, and in the cases of Minnesota and Kentucky would also severely alter many families' Thanksgiving traditions.”
“What's really hard about this is it's some of the places that are most important to us, mainly being your home,” said Democrat Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz as he detailed a four-week long order. “To invite a friend over or a brother-in-law to watch the Vikings play the Bears is one of the riskiest things we can do right now. It seems too easy and it doesn't seem like that's a big deal but that would be a big risk.”
“I heard a nurse the other day who was with me and she said ‘please stay home over Thanksgiving so you're not celebrating with me in the emergency room,’” he added.
Democrat Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has issued his own strict lockdown. He limited social gatherings to a maximum of eight people from two households. Indoor dining is also prohibited.
