Nationwide School Closures Amid Coronavirus Concerns
Over 29.5 million kids have been affected by the school closing amid the coronavirus pandemic here in the United States. It's only a matter of time until more schools follow suit and close their doors to try and slow the spread of the virus.
As this goes on, Congress is taking steps to make it easier for school meals to be distributed out to those who are in need.
Here’s a current list of states that have announced school closures:
Alabama
Schools will be closed starting at 5pm on Wednesday, March 18. They will remain on a break for 2.5 weeks.
Arizona
The closure of all Arizona schools from Monday, March 16 through March 27 was jointly announced by Govenor Doug Ducey and State Superintendent Kathy Hoffman.
Arkansas
All Arkansas schools have suspended on-site instruction starting Tuesday. However, most schools will disband on-site instruction on Monday while the state will give the school districts until Tuesday to prepare their students for online instruction.
Connecticut
All public schools have received orders from Governor Ned Lamont to cancel classes beginning March 17 through at least March 31. The closing may be extended later on pending circumstances.
Florida
UPDATE: Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has announced that K-12 schools statewide will remain closed until April 15. In response, Brevard Public Schools will be implementing its instructional continuity plan for students beginning Monday, March 30. Specific details will come soon. pic.twitter.com/kQ725pDSzf

Announced last Friday, Florida public schools will be closed until March 30.
Georgia
Georgia's Governor signed an executive order today to close all public elementary, secondary and post-secondary public schools through the end of the month.
Illinois
All Illinois schools have been closed through March 30 in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.
Iowa
On Sunday night, Iowa's Governor announced that schools will be closed for 4 weeks.
Kentucky
Across Kentucky, public school districts have been closed for at least 2 weeks.
Louisiana
All K-12 public schools statewide will close today and will resume on April 13.
Maryland
From Marh 16-27, Maryland public schools will be closed due to coronavirus.
Massachusetts
As of Tuesday, schools will be closed for 3 weeks as ordered by Governor Charlie Baker.

Michigan
As of Monday, all public and private schools across the state will be closed through April 5.
Nevada
Governor Steve Sisolak has announced the closure of all K-12 schools throughout the state through April 6.
New Hampshire
All schools in New Hampshire were ordered to close immediately and to begin remote learning for the next 3 weeks.
New Mexico
All public schools in New Mexico will be closed for 3 weeks as announced by the New Mexico Public Education Department.
North Carolina
All K-12 public schools will be closed for at least 2 weeks. The Governor also issued an executive order that prohibits gatherings of 100 or more people at this time.
North Dakota
North Dakota's Governor has closed schools for the next week. However, the state will make an assessment about extending it in the future.
Oklahoma
The Oklahoma State Board of Education has made the decision to close public schools for at least 3 weeks.
Ohio
All K-12 public, private and charter schools will be on an extended spring break beginning at the end of the school day on Monday. This will last until April 3.
Oregon

There is a statewide school closure for students in Oregon from today until March 31.
Pennsylvania
All K-12 Pennsylvania schools will be closed for 10 business days starting on March 16.
Rhode Island
On Friday, Governor Gina Raimondo said that all public schools will be closed next week, moving up their April vacations.
South Carolina
Governor Henry McMaster has made a plan to close all schools. However, there's a possibility of allowing those districts in counties with no known virus cases to have school on Monday just to prepare for distance learning.
South Dakota
Schools will be closed for a week statewide starting next week.
Tennessee
The Governor has urged schools to close as soon as possible with the last expected to be closed by March 20. They will remain closed through the end of the month.
Vermont
All Pre-K-12 schools will have to close by March 18 and remain closed until April 6. Governor Phil Scott has said that this period could be extended depending on the situation.
Virginia
All K-12 schools will be closed a minimum of 2 weeks as ordered by Governor Ralph Northam.
Washington

All Washington schools will be closed from March 17 through at least April 24 as ordered by Governor Jay Inslee.
West Virginia
Schools were closed on Friday in West Virginia for the time being.
Wisconsin
In an effort to contain the spread of the virus, Wisconsin has ordered statewide closure of all K-12 schools. This includes private and public.
