New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie Regrets Not Wearing a Mask to the White House
Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie regrets his decision of not wearing a mask to the White House. He said his bout with the coronavirus should prompt others to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) guidance, reported Fox News.
Christie attended the Rose Garden ceremony for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Amy Coney Barrett. He was part of a debate prep session wherein he and others were not wearing face masks.
Days later, Christie checked into the hospital due to caution surrounding his positive COVID-19 diagnosis.
“I believed when I entered the White House grounds, that I had entered a safe zone, due to the testing that I and many others underwent every day,” Christie said, as reported by The New York Times.
Christie also said, “I was wrong. I was wrong not to wear a mask at the Amy Coney Barrett announcement and I was wrong not to wear a mask at my multiple debate prep sessions with the president and the rest of the team.”
Christie said he was told that everyone in the first three rows, wherein he sat, tested negative that day. “I shouldn’t have relied on that,” he said.
Market Watch reported that the ceremony for Barrett is believed to be a superspreader event.
According to Christie, he spent seven days hospitalized in intensive care. He has mostly recovered but still undergoes fatigue.
“Having had this virus, I can also assure those who have not had it of a few things. It is something to take very seriously,” he said. “The ramifications are wildly random and potentially deadly. No one should be happy to get the virus and no one should be cavalier about being infected or infecting others.”
