New York state’s attorney general filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and his family, alleging that they lied to lenders and insurers for several years, inflating and deflating the former president’s worth for tax purposes.

New York state prosecutor Letitia James accused Trump’s children and the members of the Trump organization for helping the former president submit fraudulent statements of his net worth “to obtain and satisfy loans, get insurance benefits, and pay lower taxes.”

“In short, he lied to gain massive financial benefits for himself,” James said.

This investigation is just one of several probes into Trump, who is possibly looking to run again for the White House in 2024.

A spokesperson for the former president denounced the civil suit, alleging that it was just a stunt by the Democrats against the Republican Trump.

“A tale of two justice systems — yes where criminals go free, and the Democrats only go after their political opponents!” Liz Harrington posted on Truth Social.

James’ office requested for Trump to pay a minimum of $250 million in penalties. It also requested for his family to be banned from running businesses in New York.

She also urged the former president and his children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump, to be banned from buying property in New York for five years.
