Nintendo Requests Players to “Refrain from Bringing Politics into the Game” After Biden Campaign Created Virtual Island Before the Election

President-elect Joe Biden created his own island in “Animal Crossing” – prompting Nintendo to ask players not to bring politics into the game.

“Please refrain from using the Game inappropriately or creating any content within the Game that would be considered vulgar, discriminatory, or offensive. Please also refrain from bringing politics into the Game,” the guidelines read.

The Nintendo guidelines come after Biden made an island to promote his campaign in the game.

Before the election, the Biden campaign created its own virtual island called “Biden HQ.”

“Campaign flyers are strewn about the island on well-paved streets and intersections. The entire island resembles a Biden-themed virtual amusement park, featuring ice cream stands, model trains, and exclusive in-game campaign merchandise,” The Verge reported in October.

“The island includes plenty of ice cream, trains, aviators, chucks, swag, and more weaved throughout the entire island — but there are also features that encourage players to organize and mobilize,” said Christian Tom, who served as director of the campaign's digital partnerships.

“The second area is staged to look like a polling location with booths strategically placed outside,” The Verge also reported. Also, a “massive ad for the Democratic National Committee’s ‘I Will Vote’ website” is reportedly found there. It then “provides voting information to people who access it online.”
