Two deputies were killed while three other individuals, including a suspected gunman, were found dead following a long standoff in North Carolina, as per a sheriff’s office report on Thursday.

According to Watauga County Sheriff’s office, Sgt. Chris Ward and K-9 Deputy Logan Fox went to a home in Boone, North Carolina on Wednesday at 9:44 a.m. They went to the area after the homeowner and his family didn’t go to work nor took telephone calls.

The two were shot. Other officers managed to pull Ward out, who died at the hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee. Meanwhile, Fox died at the scene.

According to the statement, the suspect of the killing could also have killed the two civilians in the house. They have not revealed the names of the said civilians as of releasing the statement.

Gunfire also hit another Boone officer when he tried to rescue the two deputies. However, he didn’t suffer injuries since he had protective equipment on.

The sheriff’s office also said law enforcement officers from around 15 agencies surrounded the home. Those living nearby had evacuated or received the instruction to shelter in place as the standoff went on Wednesday night.
