NYC Beaches to Be Open Ahead of Independence Day
After partial reopening for Memorial Day weekend celebrations, NYC weekends will be open to the public for swimming ahead of the Fourth of July.
“The rumors are true: NYC beaches will open for swimming on July 1. Let’s keep playing it safe: social distance & face coverings, even at the beach!” Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted.
Beaches in some states were partially reopened for Memorial Day weekend on May 23rd to 25th, but with restrictions.

According to Fox Business, “the decision to open beaches ahead of Independence Day weekend comes as the country is grappling with both public health concerns and social tension.” This includes protests against racial injustice since the death of George Floyd.
According to Def Pen, the reopening of beaches will reintroduce jobs that were previously cut during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“On any [given] summer day, there are more than 600 lifeguards that work the city’s beachfront. With the summer ahead sure to attract beach goers, it appears that those jobs will return,” said the Def Pen report.
