NYPD Officers Taken to Hospital After Drinking Milkshakes with Unfamiliar Taste; Later Determined No Criminality

On Monday night, three NYPD police officers were taken to the hospital after drinking milkshakes at a Shake Shack. According to them, the shakes had an unfamiliar taste. After police investigated the scene, they determined that “no criminality” happened.

“After a thorough investigation by the NYPD’s Manhattan South investigators, it has been determined that there was no criminality by shake shack’s employees,” said Chief Rodney Harrison, the head of detectives for the department, on Twitter.

This incident has caused speculation within police unions. They think someone tampered the drinks of the NYPD officers. This follows the incidents that involve police officers in the U.S.

However, the New York Post reported that “police sources said the case has been deemed unintentional after it appeared that whatever cleaning solution was used on the shake machine wasn’t rinsed off enough.”

Shake Shack has then responded to Harrison’s tweet, saying: “Our team is working hard to get the full picture. In the meantime, we’re relieved to hear the officers are all okay.”

According to Patrick J. Lynch, the president of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association of the City of New York, these officers were working protest detail, as reported by Fox News. One of them also discovered that the drink contained a toxic substance, which is possibly bleach.

“When New York City police officers cannot even take meal without coming under attack, it is clear that environment in which we work has deteriorated to a critical level. We cannot afford to let our guard down for even a moment,” he also mentioned.
