Police Officer Allegedly Sent Pictures of Tyre Nichols After Beating

Demetrius Haley, one of the Memphis police officers accused of beating Tyre Nichols in the now-famous video footage, is said to have sent a picture of Nichols after the beating to a woman friend and four other people.

Police allegedly beat Nichols on January 7, 2023, while conducting a traffic stop. 3 days later, he passed away.

In accordance with information obtained through a Peace Officer Standards and Training public information request, USA Today reported that Haley allegedly took “two photographs while standing in front of the obviously injured subject after he was handcuffed,” according to images on his “personal cell phone.”

Haley reportedly “admitted (he) shared the photo in a text message with five people; one civilian employee, two MPD officers, and one female acquaintance.”

According to the AP, the documents say Haley was “driving an unmarked car and [wearing] a black sweatshirt hoodie over his head,” and that he reportedly “forced Nichols from his car using loud profanity, then sprayed him directly in the eyes with a chemical irritant spray.”

Haley allegedly took the picture after the beating started (s).

Five cops have been dismissed and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the killing of Nichols: Justin Smith, Tadarrius Bean, Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Haley.
