A new poll by The Economist/YouGov revealed most Americans agree that illegal immigration is a “serious” problem in President Joe Biden's America. Still, they are divided regarding red states, such as Florida and Texas, sending migrants to blue jurisdictions in the north.

A question in the survey goes: “How serious a problem is illegal immigration in the U.S. as a whole?”

Sixty-one percent said it is a “serious” problem, with 42 percent saying it is “very” serious. Meanwhile, one in every four Americans believes illegal immigration is “not a problem.”

The survey also asked: “Do you approve or disapprove of Texas and Florida sending undocumented immigrants to northern cities without notice?”

Despite the previous consensus, there is a split, with 44 percent supporting the move and 44 percent opposing it. Furthermore, the percentages of those who “strongly” approve and “strongly” disapprove are identical — 33 percent each. Overall, 12% are unsure how they feel about red states sending migrants to northern cities like Martha's Vineyard — which is what Florida did last week.

The survey was conducted on September 17-20, 2022. The respondents were 1,500 U.S. adult citizens. It also has a margin of error of +/- 2.9 percent.
