Poll: Majority of Republicans Would Leave GOP To Join Party Founded by Trump
A poll conducted by Hill-HarrisX found that if former President Donald Trump created a third party, most Republicans would leave the GOP to join it.
According to the poll, 64% of registered Republicans said they would join Trump’s hypothetical new party. With this, 32% said they would be “very likely” to join it.
Conversely, 36% of registered Republicans did not want to leave the GOP for a third party.
However, apart from Republicans, the survey revealed that self-identified independents (28%) and even a few Democrats (15%) would likely join a party created by Trump.
Overall, 37% of voters say they would join Trump’s party if ever he made one.
A Trump Party?
Trump has thrown the idea out there of creating a “Patriot Party” to group his supporters. He wants to make a movement that can potentially challenge the dominance of the Republican and Democratic parties in America.
Right before he left his office, the former president said that the movement that made him president in the 2016 election was “only the beginning.”
“There's never been anything like it,” he added. He also said that the notion in which a nation should work for its people “will not dwindle” but it will grow stronger as time passes by. “As long as the American people hold in their hearts deep and devoted love of country, then there is nothing this nation cannot achieve.”
Meanwhile, as he left for Florida on Biden’s inauguration day, the former president said, “We will be back in some form.”
The survey conducted by Hill-HarrisX was done online. Its respondents were 945 registered voters, 340 of which were Republicans. The poll has a +/-3% margin of error.
