GOP Lawmakers Who Voted Impeach Face Pro-Trump Challengers

Republicans who voted to impeach former President Donald Trump now face a slew of Pro-Trump challengers. In fact, nine out of ten GOP lawmakers who sided with Democrats are now facing primary opponents that just might unseat them.

‘Get Rid Of Them All’

The former president wasn’t shy about showing his disdain for party mates that pushed to unseat him during his last days in office.

In his February CPAC speech, Trump said that “Instead of attacking me and, more importantly, the voters of our movement, top establishment Republicans in Washington should be spending their energy in opposing Biden, Pelosi, Schumer, and the Democrats.” 

As for the Republicans who voted to impeach him, he offered his advice to GOP voters: “Get rid of them all!”. For the 2022 elections, he already vowed to work against Republicans who voted against him.

Instead, he will endorse Pro-Trump candidates that can help push his agenda. Already, the former president endorsed one primary challenger and said there are more to come. 

Here are three of the more interesting congressional primaries that  are up for grabs: 

Representative Liz Cheney (WY)

Chief among Trump’s targeted GOP members is Representative Liz Cheney (WY), who also served as House Republican Conference Chair. She is also the highest-profile GOP member who pushed for Trump’s impeachment.

During the last conference meeting, Pro-Trump members voted to remove her from the position. Now, she faces at least eight primary challengers for her seat in Congress. 

The most prominent challenger is State Senator Anthony Bouchard, who raised the most money for the GOP so far, generating more than $500,000 in donations.

Bouchard said that Cheney's impeachment vote made it clear that she does not carry the conservative vote in Washington. In fairness, Cheney made her dislike for Trump evident and remained critical of him for the better part of his tenure.

Cheney is already training her guns on Bouchard, saying “Bring it on. As I said, if they think that they are going to come into Wyoming and make the argument that the people of Wyoming should vote for someone who is loyal to Donald Trump over somebody who is loyal to the Constitution, I welcome that debate.”

Representative Tom Rice (SC)

Rep. Tom Rice (SC) is also facing challenges from pro-Trump candidates gunning for his position. This includes former Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride and state Representative William Bailey.

The lineup also includes Graham Allen, who gained prominence as a right-leaning influencer. Allen is a former Army staff sergeant who served twelve years in combat, including two tours during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Today, Allen is the host of the podcast Dear America. “I think that President Trump showed the world that you don't have to be a politician to become a politician,” Allen told Fox News.

Specifically, he attacked Rice for forgetting his place. The congressman forgot that it’s his job to serve as a conduit for the people who voted for him. He forgot to represent the people. 

Meanwhile, Rice welcomed the challenge. He's “faced challengers in every election. I welcome the opportunity to discuss how I’ve been working every day in Congress on behalf of my constituents.

From broadband investment, infrastructure investment, beachfront renourishment, and federal disaster relief, to ensuring our pro-life values and the Second Amendment remain protected from House Democrats, I’m proud to represent the interests of the people of the 7th District.” 

Representative Adam Kirzinger (IL)

Kirzinger is one of the more prominent GOP members who want the party to move on from Trump after his election loss. As one of Cheney’s closest allies in the efforts to pull down Trump, he pulled in $2.2 million in campaign donations. 

His top challenger is a former Trump Commerce Department veteran, Catalina Lauf. “I have always understood the tremendous promise of this nation – which is why I proudly served in the Trump White House working to advance President Trump’s pro-jobs, pro-family agenda that delivered historic prosperity and progress for communities across this country,” Lauf said in a statement.

In addition, she said Kirzinger is a career politician, a Warhawk, and votes with Democrats. Also, she accused the incumbent of refusing “to stand up to the radical left.”

Lauf’s background in business will help her focus on “pro-growth, pro-business and pro-worker policies” if she dethrones Kirzinger.

She also said that her family's background in Latin America makes her appreciate the “American Dream that has made all of our lives possible is under attack today by radical progressives.”
