Report says John Kerry Collaborated with Iran to Undermine Trump
The foreign minister of Iran, Javad Zarif, reportedly met with John Kerry, Robert Malley and other members of the Biden administration to “undermine” former President Donald Trump’s administration, according to a report by The Washington Times.
Zarif held meetings with the said Obama administration veterans to create a strategy that would undermine the former president’s administration. They also wanted to pave the way for softer diplomacy between the two countries. The Washington Times cited an unnamed former U.S. official close to the matter for the report.
The said senior official claimed that face-to-face meetings took place between Iran’s foreign minister and Democratic officials. The meetings reportedly happened in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Currently, Kerry serves as the Presidential Envoy for Climate while Malley now serves as President Joe Biden’s Envoy to Iran.
The Washington Times also added that the former president attempted to create a backchannel to communicate with Iranian officials. He did so in the hopes of lowering tension between nations. This eventually eased off. But while Trump was trying this out, Democrats were meeting up with Zarif.
Although, Kerry remained open about communicating with Zarif, saying he had met with him twice while Trump still served in office. This prompted the former president to say that the meetings were grounds for Kerry to be prosecuted under the Logan Act.
On the other hand, Republicans slammed Biden’s decision to set aside the former administration’s push to impose U.N. sanctions on Iran.
