Rolling Stones Threaten to Sue Trump for Using Their Songs During Reelection Campaign

Rock band The Rolling Stones said their legal team is in collaboration with BMI to prevent President Trump's reelection events from using their music.

“The BMI have notified the Trump campaign on behalf of the Stones that the unauthorized use of their songs will constitute a breach of its licensing agreement,” said a statement obtained by Fox News. “If Donald Trump disregards the exclusion and persists then he would face a lawsuit for breaking the embargo and playing music that has not been licensed.”

According to the statement, the band previously issued cease-and-desist directives. However, President Trump continued to use their hit song “You Can't Always Get What You Want” at campaign rallies.

“This could be the last time Trump uses any Jagger/Richards songs on his campaigns,” said the statement.

Apart from The Rolling Stones, other musicians have also complained about the same thing. Many of these bands had their music associated with Trump’s events. Tom Petty’s family said it had issued a cease-and-desist order after “I Won’t Back Down” was used in Tulsa.

“Trump was in no way authorized to use this song to further a campaign that leaves too many Americans and common sense behind,’’ the statement said, as reported by The Guardian. “Both the late Tom Petty and his family firmly stand against racism and discrimination of any kind. Tom Petty would never want a song of his to be used in a campaign of hate. He liked to bring people together.’’
