RV Rental Bookings Increase During the Holidays for Safer Visits to Extended Families

In a statement obtained by Fox Business, RV rental company Outdoorsy shared that it is already “on pace to exceed last year’s November bookings.”

“Initially, we saw demand stemming from quarantine fatigue, where travelers were eager to spend more time outdoors, in a safe and socially distant way, after months cooped up inside,” said Outdoorsy’s CEO Jeff Cavins. “Now, we’re hearing from our RV owners and renters that the new catalyst for bookings is coming from travelers in search of a safe way to visit family over the holidays.”

Cavins explained that to visit extended family during the holidays, “renters are planning to park RVs, trailers, or campervans outside their families’ homes rather than have people stay in close quarters under one roof.”

The company reportedly received a 400% increase in RV rental bookings during Labor Day weekend. This is in comparison to the amount it had last year, internal data shows.

USA Today also reported that RVShare.com, a site for renting recreational vehicles, predicts a rise in bookings for the next two months. This increase will likely come “as more travelers may opt to hit the roads.”

“More than half of travelers (in a recent poll) said they would consider renting an RV to visit family and stay in a family member’s driveway or nearby campground to social-distance,” says RVShare spokesperson Maddi Bourgerie.
