Senate Republicans Reject Calls for Gun Control as Response to Buffalo Shooting
Senate Republicans have rejected calls for gun control measures from U.S. Pres. Joe Biden and other Democrats following the Buffalo, New York, mass shooting.
According to The Hill, Sens. John Barrasso (WY) and Charles Grassley (IA) have clearly stated that gun control is not on the table.
Senate Republicans: Guns Not to Blame for Shootings
Barrasso responded to the push made by the Democrats for gun control on Tuesday. He said, “It just doesn’t seem to be helpful to me to go after law-abiding citizens and our Second Amendment rights, so I’m going to continue to hold that position.”
Meanwhile, G0rassley mentioned, “I think I heard a Black person from Buffalo on television say that guns don’t kill, people kill. So what are you going to accomplish by gun control?”
Grassley’s statement was in reference to the Buffalo resident who became viral online following an interview after the shooting.
According to Fox News, the resident said, “I feel bad for the people that was in there because after the security guard got shot…[the attacker] was shooting people still.”
The resident went on to say, “If more people were armed—and knew what they were doing with a gun—because it’s not the gun. It’s the person with the gun that don’t know how to act.”

According to Breitbart News, the said Buffalo grocery shooter got his gun legally. As per an ABC 7 report, the gunman used a rifle, which he purchased at a store in Broom County, New York.
A successful purchase of a gun at a gun store requires passing background checks.
