Starbucks Barista Fired From Writing ‘PIG’ on Police Officer’s Cup

One of the baristas in an Oklahoma Starbucks wrote “Pig” on the label of a police officer’s order, which Starbucks apologized for. Kiefer Police Chief Johnny O'Mara shared a photo of the cup given to one of his officers. The officer purchased the beverages as a gesture for the dispatchers on duty.

“What irks me is the absolute and total disrespect for a police officer who, instead of being home with family and enjoying a meal and a football game, is patrolling his little town,” said O'Mara on a Facebook post. Starbucks said that the barista has been suspended “pending the outcome of our investigation.”

The coffee chain offered to replace the coffee with a correct label, but O’Mara wasn’t buying it following “Starbucks' track record of other anti-police incidents.” Starbucks apologized and called the incident “totally unacceptable and offensive to all law enforcement,” which was acknowledged by O’Mara.

“This language is offensive to all law enforcement and is not representative of the deep appreciation we have for police officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe,” said Jory Mendes, senior communications manager for Starbucks.
