Dave Chappelle Receives Support for Slamming ‘Woke” Cancel Culture the Right Way

On Monday, supporters praised Dave Chappelle, a comedian, for his reply to the controversy that surrounds his new Netflix show titled “The Closer.” He said he did not bend “to anyone’s demands” after the backlash coming from the left with regard to his remarks about transgendered people.

Many critics slammed Chappelle because of the special that aired earlier this month. They claimed he went “too far” when making jokes and that the comedian was transphobic and homophobic. Apart from this, a small group of employees from the movie streaming site staged a walk-out last week as a form of protest.

In a video posted on Instagram, he said: “To the transgender community, I am more than willing to give you an audience, but you will not summon me. I am not bending to anybody’s demands. And if you want to meet with me, I’d be more than willing to,” also adding the “conditions” needed to be met before a meeting can take place.

The comedian also put the blame on “corporate interests” for efforts to “cancel” him in relation to the backlash over his Netflix special. He said that the LGBTQ community had been “loving and supporting” amid the fiasco.

On social media, his supporters reacted to the comedian's refusal to bow down to the criticism. Some of them implored him to avoid bending under pressure. Others said that standing up against what the critics say would put a halt to cancel culture’s “madness.”

The comedian, however, faced some criticism regarding his response to the controversy. Some critics have lambasted him for his want to dictate instead of listening. Others slammed him for being a millionaire who whined to a packed arena about being canceled.

Amid the backlash and criticism, Chappelle did not show any signs of being canceled following a sold-out show in London last week, per a Variety report.
