To expand online sales growth, Target has made its products available for purchase directly through Instagram. This makes Target the first mass retailer to do so.

The company ensures its customers can shop for products easily online. The process lets customers tap on the image of the desired product. Then it lets them customize their selection and check out. Also, customers can do the entire process without closing the app, according to Fox Business.

“More and more guests are searching for digital shopping options, and we’re continuing to invest in experiences that allow them to get what they need from Target whenever, wherever and however they want,” said Dawn Block, Senior Vice President of Target Digital.

“We know our guests are already using Instagram, so we’re making it even easier for them to find and buy the quality, affordable products they expect from Target,” Block added.

Instagram's Chief Operating Officer Justin Osofsky says they “want to make it easy for people to instantly shop every product they discover on Instagram. That’s why we collaborated with Target to set up a virtual store that makes discovery to purchase seamless right in the app with Instagram Checkout.”

According to Fox Business, Target currently has 4.4 million followers on its main account. Meanwhile, it has 2.2 million followers on its TargetStyle account.

The company saw a 141 percent spike in online sales in the first quarter. Its digital sales jumped from 33 percent in February to 282 percent in April, as reported by Fox Business.
