Texas Passes Massive Anti-Abortion Bill to Protect Unborn Children

On Wednesday, Gov. Greg Abbot announced that Texas passed a pro-life bill that would safeguard all unborn children with a heartbeat.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Abbott announced that “The heartbeat bill” has been signed into law in Texas. He then added that the new law makes sure to protect the life of all unborn children with a heartbeat from abortion.

The said act bans abortions if the unborn baby already has a heartbeat. As per the Cleveland Clinic, at the end of the fourth week of pregnancy, the unborn child’s small heart tube beats around 655 times per minute. Additionally, a baby’s heartbeat can be detected at six weeks.

The new law exempts medical emergencies, but it doesn’t exempt pregnancies brought about by rape or incest. Additionally, it provides private citizens both in and out of the state the power to sue clinics or individuals who help women get abortions, as per the Texas Tribune. According to the news outlet, this could make the said law hard to challenge in court.

Liberals became furious at the new law that prevents the murder of innocent unborn children in Texas.

Democratic Texas State Rep. Donna Howard said earlier in May that they may not agree on abortion but they should all agree that this bill potentially invites “extremists” from out of the state to harass healthcare workers who only want to do their job according to the law.

Rebecca Parma, the Senior Legislative Associate of Texas Right to Life, released a statement last week, describing the Heartbeat Act as the “strongest Pro-Life bill” approved by a legislative body since Roe v. Wade. Parma then added that it would save thousands of lives.
